General description

5α-Tetrahydrocortisol, also known as Allo-3a-tetrahydro cortisol (ATHC), a synthetic corticosteroid hormone derived from cortisol, is widely employed in biochemical and proteomics research. It is a metabolite of cortisol, a natural glucocorticoid that is used to treat various immune, inflammatory, and neoplastic conditions. In the context of medical diagnosis, a higher ratio of specific urinary metabolites can indicate the presence of Apparent Mineralocorticoid Excess (AME) syndrome, a rare form of hypertension linked to abnormalities in cortisol metabolism.
