Copper(II) oxide (Cupric oxide, CuO) contains copper in the +2 valence state. CuO is useful for the fabrication of solid state gas sensors. It can be synthesized from copper oxalate.

Copper(II) oxide may be used in the preparation of imidazole and single crystals of CuO.
