General description
Activation Protein transcription factor 2 (AP-2) is a developmentally modulated transcription factor that binds to specific sequence such as CCCCAGGC or related sequences. These sequences are usually present in several promoter and enhancer gene regions, including the promoters of the AP-2 genes themselves,,. AP-2 expression has also been linked to human breast cancer cells.
By immunoblotting, rabbit anti-AP-2α reacts specifically with human AP-2α. The sequence recognized by the antibody differs from the corresponding mouse sequence by one residue and from the chicken sequence by 2 residues.

Immunogen
synthetic peptide corresponding to human AP-2α, C-terminal sequence, (amino acids 420-437) conjugated to KLH with glutaraldehyde.
Application
Rabbit anti-AP-2alpha antibody can be used for western blot (1:250), microarray and indirect immunofluorescence (1:100) assays.
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% bovine serum albumin and 15 mM sodium azide

Manganese superoxide dismutase plays a role in breast tumor cell growth, which depends on its constitutive expression. However, the mechanisms responsible for the regulation of constitutive SOD2 gene expression at different malignant phenotype in breast cancers remain to be determined.
