The Obg family of GTPases belongs to the TRAFAC (for translation factors) class. Obg-like ATPase 1 (OLA1) [GTP-binding protein 9 (putative)] is a member of the Obg family that binds and hydrolyses ATP more efficiently than GTP. OLA1 has been shown to function as a negative regulator of antioxidant responses via nontranscriptional mechanisms. OLA1 is required for cell migration and invasion in various cancers such as breast cancer.
