Biochem/physiol Actions
FGL1 belongs to the fibrinogen family, the principal protein in formation of blood clots in vertebrates. It exists as a multimeric protein structure comprising two copies of three homologous polypeptide chains (α2, β2, γ2). It is reacted with the thrombin-like enzyme, forming a fibrin-like substance in blood coaggulation. The downregulation of the protein is significantly associated with the differentiation of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). It has been reported that in deregulation of FGL1, it acts in cell growth and tumorigenicity in vitro and in vivo. Studies conclude that FGL1 may contribute in hepatocarcinogenesis.
