A Glu141Asn mutant Paracoccus sp. 12-A formate dehydrogenase catalyzes marked glyoxylate reduction. Additional replacement of the His332-Gln313 pair with His-Glu, which is a consensus acid/base catalyst in D-hydroxyacid dehydrogenases, further improved the catalytic activity of the enzyme as to glyoxylate

Primary hyperoxaluria type 2 (PH2) is a rare monogenic disorder characterized by an elevated urinary excretion of oxalate. Increased oxalate excretion in PH2 patients can cause nephrolithiasis and nephrocalcinosis, and can, in some cases, result in renal failure and systemic

The enzyme glyoxylate reductase reversibly reduces glyoxylate to glycolate, or alternatively hydroxypyruvate to D-glycerate, using either NADPH or NADH as a co-factor. The enzyme has multiple metabolic roles in different organisms. In this paper we show that GOR1 (ORF YNL274c)

Molecular modelling suggests that a group of proteins in plants known as the beta-hydroxyacid dehydrogenases, or the hydroxyisobutyrate dehydrogenase superfamily, includes enzymes that reduce succinic semialdehyde and glyoxylate to gamma-hydroxybutyrate and glycolate respectively. Recent biochemical and expression studies reveal that
