Immunogen
synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal domain (amino acids 594-602) of rat GAT-2.
Application
Anti-GABA Transporter GAT-2 antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for immunohistochemistry.
Biochem/physiol Actions
GAT-2 is a transporter for the selective uptake of γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA). It belongs to a family of Na+ and Cl- co-dependent transporters, which include GAT-1, GAT-3 and BGT-1 transporters. These transporters have a molar mass of 67kDa each and contain 12 transmembrane regions. GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS and a neuromodulator in certain peripheral tissues.

The removal of neurotransmitters by their transporters--located in the plasma membranes of nerve terminals and glial cells--plays an important role in the termination of synaptic transmission. In the last 3 years, many neurotransmitter transporters have been cloned. Structurally and functionally

gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain. GABA is cleared from the synaptic cleft by specific, high-affinity, sodium- and chloride-dependent transporters, which are thought to be located on presynaptic terminals and surrounding glial cells.
