Gene Information
human ... IL1B(3553)
General description
IL1B (interleukin-1β) is a major proinflammatory cytokine, which is secreted by macrophages and monocytes. It is secreted as an inactive enzyme called pro-IL-1β, which is then cleaved by IL-1β converting enzyme or caspase-1, to produce IL-1β. This gene is localized to human chromosome 2q13-21, and is composed of seven exons and six introns. It is a member of the IL-1 family, which also includes IL-1α and IL-1RN.
Application
Anti-Interleukin-1β antibody produced in chicken is suitable for indirect ELISA and western blotting analysis at a dilution of 1:500, for tissue or cell staining at a dilution of 1:200.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Interleukin-1 β (IL-1β), also known as catabolin, is a proinflammatory cytokine found to be involved in development of insulin resistance. It mediates the effect of macrophages on insulin signaling and proinflammatory response in human adipocytes. IL-1β blockage may be beneficial for preventing obesity-associated insulin resistance and inflammation in human adipose tissue. Its variants are implicated in the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN).

Variants of the interleukin-1β gene (IL1B) are implicated in the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN). The present candidate-gene association study was conducted to investigate the association between the IL1B C-511T variant and the risk of DN in a Caucasian population.

Adipose tissue expansion during obesity is associated with increased macrophage infiltration. Macrophage-derived factors significantly alter adipocyte function, inducing inflammatory responses and decreasing insulin sensitivity. Identification of the major factors that mediate detrimental effects of macrophages on adipocytes may offer potential
