Biochem/physiol Actions
Proopiomelanocortin (POMC) is a precursor polypeptide having 241 amino acid residues and is synthesized from the 285-amino-acid-long polypeptide precursor pre-pro-opiomelanocortin (pre-POMC) by removing a 44-amino-acid-long signal peptide sequence during translation. Its deficiency is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner and is characterized by severe, early-onset hyperphagic obesity and congenital adrenal insufficiency.
Physical form
Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide.
