Gene Information

human ... CAPG(822)

General description

CAPG (capping protein, gelsolin-like) is an actin-binding protein, which is expressed ubiquitously. It belongs to the Ca2+- and polyphosphoinositide-regulated villin/gelsolin superfamily, and caps the barbed end of the growing actin microfilament.

Immunogen

Immunogen Sequence: GI # 4502561, sequence 1-348
Recombinant capping protein (actin filament), gelsolin-like

Application

Anti-CAPG antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting analysis at a dilution of 1:500, for tissue or cell staining at a dilution of 1:200.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Macrophage-capping protein (CAPG) plays a critical role in regulating the migration ability of cells. It is a Ca2+-sensitive protein, which reversibly blocks the barbed ends of actin filaments, but does not sever preformed actin filaments. CAPG helps in promoting tumor cell invasion, but not cell proliferation. It is involved in the process of metastasis by promoting the invasiveness of tumor cells. It can act as a biomarker in risk-stratification therapy for gastric cancer and as a therapeutic target in Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). CAPG is also identified as a novel candidate biomarker to predict response to gemcitabine treatment and survival in cholangiocarcinoma as well as lung adenocarcinoma.
