Gene Information

human ... HOXB6(3216)
mouse ... Hoxb6(15414)

General description

Hox genes are evolutionarily conserved transcription factors. Homeobox B6 (HOXB6) gene is mapped to human chromosome 17q21.32. HOX proteins have a highly conserved 60-amino-acid region (the homeobox).

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 48-60 of human HOXB6 conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence in mouse differs by one amino acid.

Application

Anti-HOXB6 (N-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunoblotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Anti-HOXB6 (N-terminal) recognizes human HOXB6 (also known as HOX2B, HU-2 and Hox-2).
One of the major functions of Hox genes seems to be the formation of the body plan during embryonic development. Alteration in the homeobox gene function or expression is implicated in the development of cancers including the breast, prostate, kidney, colon, skin and brain. HOXB6 is frequently overexpressed in human acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Findings have indicated that HOXB6 overexpression expanded hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and myeloid precursors while impairing erythropoiesis and lymphopoiesis.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Preparation Note

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free” freezers, is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
