LTN1 (Listerin) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase, that is incorporated with ribosomes. It is of 180kDa and has an N terminus, HEAT/ARM (Huntingtin, elongation factor 3/Armadillo) repeats along with a C-terminal catalytic RING (really interesting new gene) domain. It is located on Chr21q22.11.

In yeast, LTN1 (Listerin) play an important role in quality control of nonstop proteins. It helps to mediate the ubiquitylation and subsequent degradation of translationally arrested nonstop proteins. Absence of Ltn1 in cells, show greater sensitivity to translation-specific drugs. In yeast, lack of Ltn1 leads to aggregation of toxic proteins, that may describe the embryonic lethality and neurodegenerative phenotypes of Ltn1/Listerin-mutant mice.
