It has a pivotal role in signal transduction, where IL-1 Receptor Type I binds with interleukin-1 and the coreceptor IL1RAP to form the high affinity interleukin-1 receptor complex that facilitates IL-1 dependent activation of NF-κ-B, MAPK and other pathways.
