General description
Lens culinaris lectin (LcL) is a carbohydrate-binding protein found in lentil seeds. It is an anti-nutritional compound and a heterotetramer containing two α-chains and two β-chains.
Application
Lectin from Lens culinaris (lentil) has been used:
- to stain oocytes during immunofluorescence staining for the detection of cortical granules
- in fluorescence quantification study
- lectin-binding assay
Biochem/physiol Actions
LcH 不具有血型特异性。对末端 α-D-甘露糖基和 α-D-葡萄糖基残基有亲和力。LcH 由两种异构体组成,LcH-A(分子量 49,000)和 LcH-B(分子量 49,000)。LcH-A 具有促有丝分裂活性。结合物由纯化的凝集素制备。
Lectins are implicated in the degeneration of red blood corpuscles. Therefore, lectin-containing foods must be properly cooked before consumption. It exhibits anti-viral activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its variants by blocking the binding of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) to the S-trimer protein of viruses. Lens culinaris lectin interacts with α-fetoprotein in the blood and serves as a potential marker for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. It also finds its application in affinity chromatography for the identification of glycoconjugates.

The green speckled lentil seed (Lens culinaris) lectin (GSLL) exhibits hemagglutinating activity, and possesses some properties distinct from those of other lentil lectins (e.g., molecular size, biological activities) that deserve further investigation. This study aims to investigate the basic properties

To compete in complex microbial communities, bacteria must sense environmental changes and adjust cellular functions for optimal growth. Chemotaxis-like signal transduction pathways are implicated in the regulation of multiple behaviors in response to changes in the environment, including motility patterns

The spike (S) protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mutated continuously and newly emerging variants escape from antibody-mediated neutralization raised great concern. S protein is heavily glycosylated and the glycosylation sites are relatively conserved, thus glycans on
