General description
Adipocyte differentiation-related protein is associated with the globule surface membrane material. This protein is a major constituent of the globule surface. Increase in mRNA levels is one of the earliest indications of adipocyte differentiation (provided by RefSeq)
Adipose differentiation-related protein (ADRP), also known as adipose differentiation-related protein (ADFP), is the major lipid droplet protein. It is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 9p22.1–p21.3. ADFP is ubiquitously expressed and is a member of PAT (perilipin/APRP/TIP47) family.
Immunogen
ADFP (NP_001113.2, 1 a.a. ~ 437 a.a) full-length human protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Adipose differentiation-related protein (ADFP) plays a vital role in lipid droplet (LD) formation and/or maturation. Increased expression of this protein in tamm-horsfall protein 1 (THP-1) macrophages increases lipid accumulation and stops lipid efflux. In addition, ADFP is slightly involved in maintenance of adipose tissue homeostasis. It acts as a potential marker for intracellular LD in tissues.
