General description
Transmembrane protein 106A (TMEM106A) is a type II transmembrane protein localized in mitochondria and plasma membrane. In human chromosome, the gene TMEM106A is localized at 17q21.31.
Immunogen
Antibody was raised against a 14 amino acid peptide near the amino terminus of human TMEM106A.
Biochem/physiol Actions
In gastric cancer cells, transmembrane protein 106A (TMEM106A) is methylated and downregulated. Expression of TMEM106A leads to suppression of cell growth and leads to apoptosis of gastric cancer cells. Expression of TMEM106A in renal cancer suppresses cell growth, cell migration and induces caspase 3 dependent apoptosis. TMEM106A is expressed in all neural cell lines. The mRNA levels of TMEM106A is upregulated in Alzheimer′s disease (AD) brain when compared to non-AD brain.
