General description

Biochem/physiol Actions
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 8 family member A1 (ALDH8A1) converts 9-cis-retinal into 9-cis-retinoic acid, which is the ligand of the retinoid X receptor. It may play a role in the 9-cis-retinal metabolic pathway.
The antibody detects endogenous levels of total ALDH8A1 protein.
