BCL-10 is expressed at a different level in the cytoplasm of most normal human cells and translocates into the nucleus in MALT lymphoma, especially in those with translocation (1; 14)(p22;q32). BCL-10 and MALT-1 protein form a complex in MALT lymphoma and are thought to synergize in the activation of NF-kappaB. The deregulation of either of them may contribute to the same pathogenic process that leads to the malignancy. BCL-10 contains a caspase-recruiting (CARD) domain and is involved in activation of caspase-9 to induce apoptosis. Mutations in BCL-10 are observed in some B and T cell lymphomas.
