Application
β-Glucuronidase from abalone has been used in enzyme treatment to know the effect of osmotic shock, enzymatic incubation, pulsed electric field, and high shear homogenization on the release of water-soluble proteins and carbohydrates from the green alga Ulva lactuca.
Biochem/physiol Actions
β-Glucuronidase (GUSB) is a lysosomal enzyme. It degrades glucuronate-containing glycosaminoglycan. β-glucuronidase, obtained from abalone has the ability to hydrolyze samples, that has high analyte concentrations. Deficiency of β-glucuronidase results in mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (MPSVII), which leads to lysosomal storage in the brain.
