Gene Information
human ... FABP5(2171)
General description
FABPs (fatty acid-binding proteins) are small 14-15kDa intracellular cytosolic proteins. They are needed for the transport of lipids to specific areas in cells. The FABP5 gene is mapped to human chromosome 8q21.
Biochem/physiol Actions
FABP5 (fatty acid-binding protein 5) is involved in the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases. Absence of FABP-4 and -5 in mice protects them against diet-induced obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis and fatty liver disease. FABP5 is also associated with bladder, pancreas, prostate, breast cancers and glioblastoma.
Physical form
Sterile filtered and Lyophilized without additives.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers

In previous work, it is suggested that the excessive amount of fatty acids transported by FABP5 may facilitate the malignant progression of prostate cancer cells through a FABP5-PPARγ-VEGF signal transduction axis to increase angiogenesis. To further functionally characterise the FABP5-PPARγ-VEGF
