General description

Vascular endothelial growth factor 121 (VEGF121) belongs to the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)/VEGF family characterized by the presence of eight conserved cysteine residues and a cystine knot structure. VEGF121 is a disulfide-linked homodimer containing 121 amino acids and is the only variant of VEGF that does not interact with heparin.
Recombinant Mouse VEGF-121 is a truncated version of Mouse VEGF-165.

Biochem/physiol Actions

VEGF121/rGel (toxin gelonin) fusion plays a vital role in targeted destruction of tumor vasculature in vivo and it can be used as a potent anti-cancer agent in cancer treatment. In mice, overexpression of VEGF121 enhanced the tumor growth, whereas VEGF165 decreased tumor growth, without affecting cancer cell proliferation in culture.

Preparation Note

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute the lyophilized product with sterile water at a concentration of 0.1 – 0.5 mg/mL, which can be further diluted into other aqueous solutions.
