Application
Urotensin I teleost fish was administered intracerebroventricularly in juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) for studying the impact of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and urotensin I on aggression and anxiety-like behaviour.
Biochem/physiol Actions
A neuroendocrine peptide of the CRF family that is found in the brain of most fish species. It may be involved in the regulation of blood pressure in fish. It is closely related to mammalian urocortin and releases ACTH from cultured rat pituitary cells.
Urotensin I is a CRF-like neuropeptide, expresses mainly in the brain of most fish species. It induces the acetylcholine (ACTH) release from the superfused goldfish anterior pituitary cell column. It stimulates the marked, dose-dependent reduction in perfusion pressure in the hind limb of the rat.

Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) is central in the stress response but also modulates several behaviors including anxiety-related behaviors and aggression. In this study, juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were tested for competitive ability, determined during dyadic fights for dominance, after intracerebroventricular

The cardiovascular effects of centrally and peripherally administered synthetic trout urotensin (U)-I, a member of the corticotropin-releasing hormone family of neuroendocrine peptides, were investigated in unanesthetized rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. Intracerebroventricular injections of U-I (5.0 and 12.5 pmol) produced a

During the past 20 years, several bioactive peptides have been identified in teleost fishes that subsequently have been shown to play important regulatory roles in mammalian physiology. The urophysis, corpuscles of Stannius and Brockmann body are anatomical structures particular to
