General description

    The typical procedure for forming methyl esters will have the mixture heated at 50°C for 5-10 minutes.  However, we recommend that you sample at other time intervals to ensure that your reaction has gone to completion.

  4. With which compounds should I use the Methanolic HCl, Product 33051?

    The  3N Methanolic HCl reagent works best for derivatizing short chain fatty acids (C4-C8).  However, it can be used for C9 and longer, but you may see a decrease in recoveries for some of the longer chains.

  5. Is Product 33051, Methanolic HCl, only used to make derivatives for GC analysis?

    The methyl esters formed by use of this reagent can be used for both TLC and HPLC applications.
