General description

Ascentis® Express PFAS is a high-speed, high-performance liquid chromatography column based on the proven Fused-Core® particle design. This particle provides a thin porous shell of high-purity silica surrounding a solid silica core. The particle design exhibits very high column efficiency due to the shallow (0.4 μm) diffusion paths in the thick porous shell and the small overall particle size of 2 μm. The densely bonded, extensively endcapped ODS stationary phase of Ascentis® Express PFAS provides an application tested solution for PFAS analysis.
The Ascentis® Express PFAS HPLC column, with its Fused-Core® technology and a particle size of 2 µm, delivers fast and high resolution separations with excellent selectivity, peak shape, and necessary retention to perform in EPA methods 537.1, 533 and 8327.

Features and Benefits

  • 2 µm Fused-Core® particle for reliable and high efficiency separations, at lower column back pressure compared to porous 2 µm particles
  • Excellent suitability for MS detection
  • Application related Lot analysis and single column performance testing
  • Pressure limit: 1000 bar

Analysis Note

Target analytes include short chain and long chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including branched and linear isomers.

Other Notes

Column Care: To maximize column life, ensure that samples and mobile phases are particle-free. The use of an Ascentis® Express PFAS Delay column isrecommended to be placed before the sample injector to delay PFAS systemcontamination. Should the operating pressure of the column suddenly increasebeyond normal levels, reversing the flow direction of the column may beattempted to remove debris on the inlet frit. With 2 µm columns, reverse flow could bedetrimental to column performance and should be done carefully and at low flowrates. Exceeding half of the normal flow rate is not recommended. To remove strongly retainedmaterials from the column, flush the column in the reverse direction with verystrong solvents such as 100% of the organic component of the mobile phase inuse. A mixture (95/5 v/v) of dichloromethane and methanol is often effective atthis task. Extreme cases may require theuse of very strong solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF) ordimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). Column Storage: Long-term storage ofsilica-based, reversed-phase columns is best in 100% acetonitrile. Columns may be safely stored for shortperiods (up to 3 or 4 days) in most common mobile phases. However, when using buffers, it is best toprotect both the column and the HPLC equipment and remove the salts by flushingthe column with the same mobile phase without the buffer (e.g., when using60/40 ACN/buffer, flush the columnwith 60/40 ACN/H2O) toeliminate any danger from corrosion from the salts while providing rapidre-equilibration of the column with the original mobile phase. Before storing the column, the end-fittings should be tightly sealed with the end-plugs that came with thecolumn to prevent the packing from drying.
