Resmethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide with insecticidal activity similar to natural pyrethrin. It is used for the protection of crops and food storage against insects and acarids.
As per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/ECC, resmethrin is not approved for use in the European Union(EU). A maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.01 mg/kg is applicable for the presence of resmethrin (including other mixtures of constituent isomers (sum of isomers)) in fresh/frozen fruits, and tree nuts, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2015/868.

Application
The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.The certified reference material resmethrin may find the following uses:
- To evaluate the toxicity of resmethrin on the male reproductive system using a testis organ-culture method
Quantification of tetramethrin and resmethrin in human body fluids using liquid chromatography (LC)–tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) - Characterization of the interaction between resmethrin and calf thymus DNA in vitro by multiple spectroscopic methods
- Heterogeneous reactions study of resmethrin, phenothrin, and fenvalerate particles with nitrate radicals
- Synthetic pyrethroid pesticides toxicity in Caenorhabditis elegans to analyze physiological change
