Performance Comparison of Estapor® Red Intense Microspheres vs. Colloidal Gold in Lateral Flow Immunoassays

Diagram illustrating the design of a lateral flow immunoassay using Estapor Red Intense microspheres and colloidal gold.

Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIA) are essential diagnostic tools celebrated for their simplicity and rapid results, significantly advancing disease detection in point-of-care settings. However, challenges such as achieving higher sensitivity and ensuring reliable outcomes remain. This article highlights the advantages of Estapor® Red Intense microspheres over colloidal gold, showcasing how they elevate LFIA performance.

Importance of Accurate Diagnosis and the Role of Lateral Flow Immunoassays in Public Health

Accurate and early diagnosis is vital for effective public health management, especially underscored during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sensitivity is a critical measure of a diagnostic test's ability to accurately identify individuals with the target analyte. A highly sensitive test minimizes false negatives and enhances patient outcomes. This report illustrates how Estapor® Red Intense microspheres can improve the performance and reliability of lateral flow immunoassays.

Key Advantages of Estapor® Red Intense Microspheres

  • Increased Sensitivity: Estapor® Red Intense microspheres detect lower analyte concentrations, achieving test line intensities up to four times stronger than those provided by colloidal gold.
  • Faster Results: These microspheres enable visualization of results up to five times quicker, particularly at low analyte concentrations, enhancing diagnostic efficiency.
  • Reliable Performance: The precision of results using Estapor® Red Intense microspheres is comparable to colloidal gold, ensuring reliability and reproducibility in various assay conditions.

Performance Comparison of Estapor® Red Intense Microspheres vs. Colloidal Gold in LFIA Applications

In our comparative study, we evaluated the performance of Estapor® Red Intense microspheres against colloidal gold in a FluA antigen LFIA, focusing on key parameters such as sensitivity, precision, and speed of detection.

Enhanced Sensitivity of Estapor® Red Intense Microspheres

The sensitivity of both detector particles was assessed by adding increasing concentrations of the target analyte. Results indicated that the limit of visual detection using Estapor® Red Intense microspheres was as low as 6.6×103 TCID50/mL, while colloidal gold was not visible at this concentration. Estapor® microspheres consistently provided higher test line intensity values across all tested concentrations.
