Gene Information
human ... PLIN4(729359)
General description
Perilipin 4 (PLIN4) is a lipid droplet protein, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 19q13.3-13.4. PLIN4 is highly expressed in white adipose tissue and is also expressed at low levels in heart and skeletal muscle. The encoded protein and PLIN5 exhibit distinct though overlapping tissue expression pattern.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Perilipin 4 (PLIN4) might be involved in the formation of lipid droplets (LDs) in adipocytes. Perilipins play a vital role in regulation of lipid turnover. In mice, knockdown of this gene downregulates Plin5 expression and decreases cardiac lipid accumulation. Mutation in the gene is linked to development of gastric cancer. In addition, variation in the gene might also lead to obesity.
Features and Benefits
Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.
Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
- IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
- Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Perilipins (PLINs) coat the surface of lipid droplets and are important for the regulation of lipid turnover. Knowledge about the physiological role of the individual PLINs in skeletal muscle is limited although lipid metabolism is very important for muscle contraction.
