General description
SYT16 is a putative membrane trafficking protein belonging to the synaptotagmin (Syt) gene family. It is composed of a single N-terminal transmembrane domain and a putative fatty-acylation region adjacent to the transmembrane domain.

Biochem/physiol Actions
The activity of SYT16 (synaptotagmin XVI) is dependent on the Ca(2+) similar to all the members of Syt family proteins. It forms Ca(2+) independent oligomer. It may be involved in membrane and vesicular trafficking in specific tissues outside the brain.
