Clone 1E21 is a ZooMAb® rabbit recombinant monoclonal antibody that detects CD2. It targets an epitope within 22 amino acids from the N-terminal half.

General description

T-cell surface antigen CD2 (UniProt: P06729; also known as Erythrocyte receptor LFA-2, LFA-3 receptor, Rosette receptor, T-cell surface antigen T11/Leu-5) is encoded by the CD2 (also known as SRBC) gene (Gene ID: 914) in human. CD2 is a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is composed of a single extracellular domain (aa 25-209) that contains two immunoglobulin-like domains (Ig-like domains), a transmembrane domain (aa 210-235) and a short cytoplasmic tail (aa 236-251). CD2 plays a vital role in T-cell activation thymocyte development, actin cytoskeleton rearrangement, and cellular signaling at the immunological synapse. It acts as a co-stimulatory molecule that enhances T-cell receptor (TCR) signaling upon binding to its ligands, such as CD58 on antigen-presenting cells. This interaction promotes T-cell proliferation, cytokine production, and overall immune response. CD2 is primarily expressed on T lymphocytes, including both CD4+ (helper) and CD8+ (cytotoxic) T cells. It is also found on natural killer (NK) cells, thymocytes and dendritic cells. In autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis, aberrant CD2 signaling may contribute to the dysregulation of T-cell responses. CD2 is expressed in certain hematological malignancies, including T-cell leukemias and lymphomas, where it may serve as a potential therapeutic target. Its role in enhancing T-cell activation also makes it a candidate for immunotherapy strategies aimed at boosting anti-tumor immunity. Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to 22 amino acids from the N-terminal half of human CD2.

Physical form

Purified recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody IgG, lyophilized in PBS with 5% Trehalose, normal appearance a coarse or translucent resin. The PBS/trehalose components in the ZooMAb formulation can have the appearance of a semi-solid (bead like gel) after lyophilization. This is a normal phenomenon. Please follow the recommended reconstitution procedure in the data sheet to dissolve the semi-solid, bead-like, gel-appearing material. The resulting antibody solution is completely stable and functional as proven by full functional testing. Contains no biocide or preservatives, such as azide, or any animal by-products. Larger pack sizes provided as multiples of 25 µL.

Preparation Note

300 µg/mL after reconstitution at 25 µL per vial. Please refer to guidance on suggested starting dilutions and/or titers per application and sample type.
Recommend storage of lyophilized product at 2-8°C; Before reconstitution, micro-centrifuge vials briefly to spin down material to bottom of the vial; Reconstitute each vial by adding 25 µL of filtered lab grade water or PBS; Reconstituted antibodies can be stored at 2-8°C, or -20°C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaws.
